At Calhoun Liberty Credit Union, our mission is not only to provide superior financial services but also to enhance the well-being of our members and the community. As we approach Veterans Day, we have a special reason to celebrate–our very own staff member, Anita Cantu, who embodies the spirit of service, sacrifice and dedication.
A True American Hero
Anita is more than just a valued CLCU employee; she is a true American hero. Her journey is a testament to her commitment to service, both within our credit union and to our nation.
Anita’s military service includes seven years in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant E5 with the 144th Transportation Company from Marianna, Florida. During her service, she was deployed to Iraq for a year. There, she played a vital role as a heavy equipment operator and the Head of Logistics at Al Asad Air Force Base. Her dedication and hard work earned her a National Security Position, highlighting her exceptional contribution during her deployment.
But Anita’s service didn’t stop when she left the military. Currently, she serves as the Quartermaster for the Apalachee Valley VFW Post 12010, where she is responsible for all financial records, minutes for the units and eligibility of officers. Her role also extends to the District Unit, where she serves as the Quartermaster and Adjutant, managing affairs at the district level. Being bonded for these positions underscores the trust placed in her.
Anita is also deeply involved in fundraising for both the local post and the district, exemplifying her dedication to supporting her fellow veterans.
Additionally, Anita is a key member of the Honor Guard, where she serves both rifle and bugle duty. Her willingness to continue serving her community and country in various capacities showcases her selflessness and unwavering commitment to making a difference.
A Financial Professional and Community Leader
Anita’s impeccable service extends beyond the military and the VFW. With over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, Anita is a Universal Member Service Representative at Calhoun Liberty Credit Union. She handles all aspects of members’ needs, and her dedication to providing excellent service is widely recognized and valued by our members and the community she serves.
She also takes on the role of branch manager, where she plays a crucial part in ensuring that our members’ financial goals are met. Her experience and expertise in the financial sector make her an invaluable asset to our credit union, and we couldn’t be more proud of everything she does for us and our members.
Veterans Day and Our Gratitude
As we approach Veterans Day, it’s important to remember the significance of this day.
Originally commemorating the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918, Veterans Day serves as a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are over 23 million war veterans living in the U.S. today. Female veterans, like Anita, number 1.8 million.
At CLCU, we are immensely proud of Anita and the countless veterans who have dedicated their lives to the service of this country. Their sacrifices and selflessness inspire us every day.
This Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans, including Anita, who continue to make a difference in our community and in the lives of our members. Their service, both in the military and in their civilian roles, is a true testament to the spirit of “people helping people” that we hold dear in the credit union movement.
Thank you, Anita, and thank you to all veterans for your service and dedication.
